The most common occurrence for property owners is sewer pipe repairs due to having a tough job of moving detergent, soap, and even the worst of them all, grease, through your plumbing system. When you catch a broken sewer line or even a leaking sewer line in time, you need to fix it as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
SEWER BACKUP - WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?
There are many reasons as to why your sewer lines are important to maintain and to be repaired when needed. First we will talk about slow drains, which is when you have clogs in your sewer line which in turn make your drains slow down when having running water, or even waiting a couple of minutes in order for your drain to fully empty. This may not seem like it is a big deal, however, having this as a constant recurrence could cause annoyance and it will draw more attention to moisture-loving pests with the excess water. Having free and clear pipes that drain water as soon as it comes out of your faucet is oddly satisfying and is the key to having an effective drain which is what you will get with a sewer line repair. Secondly, have you noticed any foul odor coming from your drains? This could indicate that you are smelling sewage in your bathroom and not a typical bathroom scent.
Having such a bad scent in your bathroom is an indication that you could have a major clog in your sewer line. Having your line repaired, will get rid of the smell due to the water traveling through your plumbing system smoothly instead of pooling near your drains. This same issue is possible in your kitchen, also. Due to food particles constantly traveling down your kitchen drain which in turn causes a foul odor if you have a clog. So, getting a sewer line repair to remove the clog and bad scent as soon as possible is the only way to fix the issue. A good rule to know in order to keep your sewer lines working as long as possible is to not use your drains and toilets as a wastebasket; this includes not flushing facial tissues, napkins, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, diapers, and other wastes down your toilets to prevent clogs. Also, do not pour grease down your drains due to the consistency of the product when it is being poured will make it seem like it is not an issue, however, the grease will harden and will keep collecting debris until a clog is formed. Thirdly, keeping your family safe from toxic waste traveling down sewer lines is essential.
That waste is hazardous to your health and your family’s health, and if your issue is extremely bad to the extent that toxic water is backing up into your yard or in your bathroom, everyone’s health is at a great risk. Due to sewage water containing fungi, parasites, and bacteria, exposure to the sewage water could make you experience a number of issues. The most common symptoms of toxic exposure include headaches, cramps, and diarrhea. Having an emergency sewer repair will protect you and your family from pathogens. Lastly, preventing a wet yard. Did you know having roots in your sewer pipes or a broken pipe could cause you to have a sewage spill out in your yard, or even worse, in your neighbors yard. This issue will cause not only a mess, but it will allow toxic sewage into the air which you and everyone around you will breathe in causing a concern to everyone’s health. Waiting too long for your sewer line to be replaced could cause a build up of blockage which could burst due to the water no longer having anywhere to flow to and eventually the pipe could burst spreading water and sewage everywhere.
SEWER REPLACEMENT - HOW TO KNOW WHEN IT IS TIME TO REPLACE YOUR SEWER LINE?
If you are unsure whether your issue is regarding your sewer line or something else, then your best option would be to call a plumber. Your sewer pipes become weaker as the years go by and the incessant sewage and water wear down seals and corrode pipes. Having foreign objects in your pipes or having out-dated pipes could indicate it is time for a sewer line replacement. Calling a plumber would be your best option in order to receive a proper diagnosis of the issue you are having and even though it may cost some money upfront, it will save you a big chunky on costly repairs. Having your sewer line replaced will involve a need for an inspection in which a plumber will use a snake attached to a video camera to look at your sewer lines in order to detect debris, blockages, and any other issues such as tree roots. Once the inspection is completed, the plumber can tell you whether you need a repair or a replacement. Maintaining your plumbing and receiving an annual inspection to identify any problems within your sewer line will help you avoid expensive sewer pipe repairs.
